They Like Jesus but not the Church part 1

As I look through my book, I found a note that was wrote in the front by Dan Kimball.  I met him at a conference and like the nerd I am I asked him to sign my book.  Inside he wrote

“Serving with on you on the mission of Jesus”

I would like to first share that my heart and passion for ministry and evangelism is summed with this message.  We are called to be servants not tyrants dictating how one should believe.  We are called to do this in a group setting not by ourselves.  We are on a mission not randomly going about our day to day affairs; there is a purpose.  We are and always about Jesus, not some political party, denomination, or some other personal thing, it’s all about Jesus.

On with the talk on What Emerging Generations think about the Church.

1.  The Church is an organized religion with a political agenda.

If we are honest with ourselves in looking at the recent history of the church then we can honestly say my bad I’m sorry.  The Church has been associated with “The Right” conservative viewpoints for good reason.  I recently was invited to come to a meeting of pastors in the community to talk about the next election.  Unfortunately (lol),  I wrote down the wrong date.  This organization to teach people to vote on the right things and how to convince your congregation which candidates support “The Right” thing is pretty annoying.  Now, I didn’t attend the meeting so I can only say so much.  But I wonder what would happen if this community were to get together and instead of picking the right candidate to fix all the evils that are around us.  Chose to join together to help the local drunks who are longing for someone to give them some good “living water” instead of their cheap malt liquor.

I am not here to push a social justice agenda nor am I here to push a conservative agenda.  In Dan Kimball’s book he says that we need to change this perception of the church being an organized religion with a political agenda to an organized community with a heart to serve others.  I long for this change and pray for it daily.  I recognize that I still have some prejudices when looking at the poor thinking that they should pull themselves up by their bootstraps but when I truly look; These people don’t have bootstraps to get themselves up and what they really need is the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.  Let’s pray today that we could have a heart of compassion to serve as oppose to dictate rules and regulations to get rid of people.

  1. I recently was blessed to hear a woman by the name of Donna Beegley speak on poverty, the lifestyle of the poor, common misconceptions about the poor and how to communicate with people in poverty. She was amazing and had valuable insights which shattered many misconceptions. I would encourage anyone to google her and follow her story and her efforts help all of us in working with those issues
